Productive alternatives diversify community income, improve economic resiliency, and reduce pressure on the natural forest

The communities of the ACAPA – BMyF REDD+ project traditionally derived their income and subsistence from logging and agricultural production. The project has provided training and technical assistance to local communities on sustainable agricultural practices and market systems development for high-value crops such as cacao and coconut in order to enhance their livelihoods and reduce their need for timber. Between 2013 and 2017, >2,600 people have been trained in in sustainable agriculture and fishing practices. (Monitoring Report 2, 2022). The project has also provided equipment and training to communities to implement sustainable fishing practices.
