The military macaw gets its name from its predominantly green body which resembles military uniforms. Found in Mexico and South America, these spectacular birds have a wingspan of up to one meter. They are often mistaken for great green macaws but are smaller and live in deciduous forests rather than humid forests. They travel in large flocks of up to 60 birds and are very loud creatures. They are threatened by habitat loss and illegal trade for use as pets.
